• Richard Dawkins, The Extended Phenotype

A sequel to the wonderful book The Selfish Gene, which tells of the distant influence genes have on our world: it is far from exhausted by the properties of organisms themselves. Beaver dams, for example, can be considered the extended phenotype of beavers, because genetic variations seriously affect the appearance and construction of their structures. Are humans an exception? The book is somewhat more difficult than the first part, but no less fascinating, and contains many amazing examples from living nature.
