I found this picture — Harold Clayton Lloyd (April 20, 1893 – March 8, 1971), an American actor and film director known for his silent comedies, dangling from a clock face in “Safety Last!” (1923). On the right, the famous clock scene from “Back to the Future”:
The homage is no accident — “Back to the Future” nods to “Safety Last!” on purpose, right down to a Harold Lloyd clock sitting among the timepieces in Doc Brown’s opening scene. And the funny part: the actor who plays Doc Emmett Brown is Christopher Lloyd :) (no relation).
