• And If You Think About It...

Heading to the kitchen this morning, I took my laptop with me so I would have something to read or watch while waiting for water to boil for tea and crispbread to toast. Not television, after all, right? And suddenly I thought about how deeply high technology has entered our lives over the last few years and become an ordinary part of it. I remember how some ten years ago owning any kind of computer at all was, in itself, a reason for pride, and using it was something almost sacred. Most often there was not even any internet there, and what kind of internet was it by today’s standards anyway?

At home, the computer always stood like an icon, in the red corner. It had a special place; every use of it was, if not an event, then certainly very far from an ordinary thing. And now I am sitting in the kitchen, one leg crossed over the other, with a one-kilogram laptop, writing to a cozy little blog over wireless internet, and this is not even anything special :)
